Netflix and Vox Collab to Create Premium Video at Internet Speed
After a request came in directly from Netflix, Vox Media put together a new "mini-season" of 'Explained' about COVID-19, and used their digital DNA to make it happen at a speed unheard of for most premium shows.
Each episode usually takes 10 weeks to produce—but the Explained team was able to create the first COVID-19 episode in just two and a half weeks by smartly using some existing material and leveraging the talent and tools of the Vox newsroom to fill the gaps.
This is a perfect example of Vox Media CEO Jim Bankoff's strategy at work. At a critical moment, Vox was able to deliver storytelling that few others could by aligning people and resources across a business in which everyone tells stories for digital platforms—using tools and workflows that were developed specifically for the job at hand.
