Code and Theory Acquires Leading Drupal Development Company Mediacurrent
NEW YORK — As part of its continued strategy to invest in technology and talent to deliver exceptional creative solutions, Code and Theory today announced that it has acquired Mediacurrent, one of the world’s leading Drupal agencies.
Founded in Atlanta in 2007 by Paul Chason and Dave Terry, Mediacurrent has quickly grown to a distributed workforce of ~50 employees across 13 states, and will continue to operate under the Mediacurrent brand name.
Mediacurrent’s expertise in architecting highly-impactful Drupal websites for organizations ranging from the NBA (National Basketball Association) to Weather.com—the highest-trafficked Drupal site in the world—will expand upon Code and Theory’s current technology offerings and services. Additionally, the partnership will enhance Code and Theory’s ability to hire talented Drupal and open-source software specialists across the United States.
“As an independent agency, we are always evaluating areas where we can expand our service offerings to bring additional value to our clients, and bring about better creative solutions,” said Code and Theory co-founder Dan Gardner. “Drupal has emerged as the enterprise CMS of choice for companies ranging from government entities to major publishers. We’re excited to team up with one of the leading Drupal agencies to help us continue to deliver beautiful, scalable, efficient design solutions for new and existing clients.”
Added co-founder Brandon Ralph: “Code is at the heart of everything we do at Code and Theory. We believe that technology has the ability to enhance creativity at every stage of development, and are happy to team up with a company that shares our same vision.”
“This acquisition allows us to be uniquely positioned in the marketplace,” said Mediacurrent co-founder Dave Terry. “Our customers will benefit from the greater scale and depth of industry experience we will be able to provide them. This was the right answer for how we wanted to advance the growth of Mediacurrent and we are thrilled to be joining forces with Code and Theory.”
“Code and Theory's track-record in user experience design and full-scale creative solutions is the ideal complement to Mediacurrent's deep open-source technology expertise," said Mediacurrent Managing Partner Paul Chason. “Our combined strengths create a true full-service agency for companies seeking one partner who can do it all under one roof.”
The Mediacurrent acquisition will expand Code and Theory’s global headcount to ~350 people and will grow the agency’s footprint across the United States. Currently, the agency operates out of New York City, San Francisco, London and the Philippines.
This deal represents Code and Theory’s second acquisition in the technology sector. In November 2012, it acquired Manila-based development agency Go Beyond Studios.
